FLY Commandments for our SUPER FLING BOOGIE!
Dear Friends,
We are embarking on our road to peace with another Super Fling
Boogie. For some of you this will be your very first time to toss out
your clutter along with all of your Flybaby friends. Join us as our members around the world Fling their Clutter!
There are some very simple FLY Commandments to use when Flinging.
1. You have to be dressed to shoes in half decent clothes. Your hair
has to be fixed and your face clean and moisturized or make up in
place if you wear it.
2. Your morning routine has to be done.
3. Put on some fun music; Perky but not too aerobic; Slow and steady
keeps you on a good pace.
4. Have your timer handy. I do not want you to lose track of time and
burn out. Do you hear me! BabySteps! Set it for 15 minutes at a time
and then go do something else or rest.
5. You should have 3 boxes as you do this. One for give away, one for put away, and one for throw away. As you fill up a bag or box, take it out of the house. You can guess at the weight. We know what our babies weigh; estimate the pounds. It doesn't have to be perfect. The idea here is to get it out of the house. A good rule is if you can pick the bag or box up easily, it weighs about 30 pounds. Don't try to be superwoman!
6. Clutter consists of anything that needs to go away: Papers,
newspapers, magazines, kitchen garbage. If you don't know, then ask
yourself if you love or use it. If the answer is no, then toss it
out.
7. Recycle as much as possible by making donations to charities. Do
not leave this stuff in the hallway. Take it to the car now; One bag
at a time. Since you already have your shoes on, it is not that big
of a deal! You do have on your shoes, don't you?
8. As for real honest to goodness trash, (regular trash counts as
pounds too) you can recycle as much of it as possible, but don't get
sidetracked in the process. Our goal is to save our homes right now.
Once you have the clutter out of your personal landfill, you can save
the world by setting up routines to recycle daily and buy less
prepackaged stuff. DO NOT Email me complaining about this statement.
I know better than anyone the cost of a landfill on society and the
world because of my former seat on the Transylvania County Commission. Our
county recycles more than any county in the state of North Carolina
and it costs us a fortune to do it. Until there is a market for the
recycled items it is going to be uphill battle. It saddens me to see
many cities doing away with recycle curb pick up because of budget
problems.
9. Do not pull out more than you can put back in an hour! I mean
this. Do a shelf at a time or a drawer or cabinet. Not the whole
kitchen! Pace yourself. When you fill up a bag or box, get it out of
the house right then. I am going to hammer this one home. I know how
you clear out stuff. You pile it all by the front door or in the
extra bedroom and leave it there. The goal is to get it out of the
house now, so you don't have to trip over it any more. If you have
bags of stuff in your garage from last week, you can count those
pounds too. The goal is to get it out of your home NOW!!! By the way,
I don't like you saving it for that yard sale that never comes
either. You cannot win by stashing it in a shed for the illusive day
that you are going to make a ton of money. You are never going to
recoup what you have spent on this stuff. Give it to charity! Bless
others by giving it away and in turn you will be blessing yourself.
Set up a table by the street, with a sign that says FREE! You will be
so surprised at how fast it all goes away! Don't complain about this
either. And NO! I will not ask everyone to send their stuff to you so
you can sell it on eBay.
10. When your timer goes off, stop! And put away everything that is
out of place. If you don't, you won't get back to it and it will
begin to look like all of your other projects hanging around the
house. Let's finish one thing at a time and get the clutter out of
your home. I don't want you beating yourself up with guilt!
11. Then sit down and rest: Drink your water and take care of
yourself. When you are rested: you can set a timer for resting too
then you can start in again. Do not crash and burn! I want you to
celebrate your accomplishment for the moment at hand not whine
because you have so much to do. Stay focused.
Keep in mind! You cannot organize clutter, you can only get rid of
it. When you toss it out you will find more room for the items that
really do need a home. Right now the clutter has taken over your
home. Every time we do a Super Fling Boogie, I get rid of more stuff.
Keeping clutter at bay is a never ending process. If we don't stay on
top of it, it will invade your home again.
