FlyLady Declutter Olympics - Events
We will be posting FlyLady's Declutter Olympics events here. You will never know what FlyLady is going to come up with, so check back often for the new events and don't forget to Post your Minutes!.
FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #16
Dear Friends,
We have had two weeks of Olympic Events. I would like to thank Leanne, Jonathan, Leslie and Kelly and the rest of the FlyCrew for making this so much fun!
Many times we get so caught up in work, work, work that we forget to take care of ourselves. As in music, the rests make the piece more interesting. In our home those little rests replenish our energy.
Finally Loving Yourself means not pushing your body to brink of exhaustion. Taking breaks and using your creativity can help you get more done! I know you don't believe it. It is the act of loving yourself by pacing yourself that relieves the stress that you put on yourself!
This winter has been long and we still have three more weeks. I want you to take a few minutes and bask in a warm sunbeam even if it is only in your mind. Yesterday I made a little video for a dear friend who loves the beach. As she watched it she could not wait to share on our FlyLady Facebook Page.
I gathered up a bunch of ocean and beach pictures. I added some background music of just the ocean waves. Sit back and relax your mind as you watch. There are no words in this relaxation video, I did not want to ruin the peaceful feeling. Allow the beauty of nature to bless you!
I love you all!

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #15
Dear Friends,
Today our Olympic event has to do with a Day at the Beach even though we are in our Winter Olympics. I want you to declutter some of your beach toys and bags and put together your very own Beach Bag for Barfing! Yes you heard me right.
Old Beach Bag
Old Beach Towels
Blow up raft
Bucket and shovel
Clear Juices
Clear Soup
Pedialite
Gatorade
Popcicles
Medications
Hand Sanitizer
Lysol
And anything else that you can think of. This is going to make you feel so much better when you have this stashed in the bottom of your linen closet or pantry. Replenish it every time you use it.
If you don't have these things in the house put them on your list for your next shopping day.
FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #14
Dear Friends,
Today Olympic Event is to express your gratitude to another person. I want you to write a thank you note! This is not a thank you note to me. I want you to write a note to someone who has touched your life! Then I want you to send it! Put a stamp on it, post it on their Facebook wall, send an email or even a little text message! It does not take a lot to show a little appreciation.
There is no wrong way to say "Thank You!" Do not allow your perfectionism to stand in the way of this one simple act of gratitude!

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #13
Dear Friends,
Today's Olympic Event is in honor of the women figure skaters. Let's put on some of your favorite music and do your skating routine with your feather duster in hand! That 007 Theme music was cool last night. I have heard a lot of my favorite music being used for the skating routines.
You can have some fun with this. Do some spins and a few jumps. Get someone to video you. Send me a link or post it up on our Facebook Page.
By the way! I hold the world record for feather dusting my whole house in 2 minutes. LOL

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #12
Dear Friends,
Today's Olympic Challenge is an anti-procrastination day event. This one that is worth every second you spend doing it.
Pull your dryer out from the wall and dig out the lint out of the vent and out of the dryer. If you need to make this a team effort then get someone to help you. Then wash your lint screen with soap and run water through it. If you use dryer sheets and fabric softner it can clog your lint screen.
Do what you can if you don't have a Hey Tom Dryer Lint kit, any lint you get out is better than not doing it.
Here is a testimonial to give you the courage to do this yourself!
Dear FlyLady,
I had been trying to get my husband to clean out the dryer vents for quite some time and he would not do it. A couple of months ago, my daughters girl scout troop went to Home Depot and took a tour.
The one employee talked to the girls about dryers and that the vent should be cleaned out every six months. I did not know when the last time ours was cleaned out and asked my husband and he said he did not know. I work for an insurance company and knew how dangerous it could be if it were not done.
I realized I had to take matters into my own hands and bought the vent dryer kit. I had no idea how to clean out the dryer vent, but figured I would learn. The kit came while my husband was away for the weekend. I took my 14 year old son down to the dryer and he took the vent off the back and we ended up taking most of the vent apart and cleaned out the vent. We ended up with a couple of inches of lint in the trash can. It would have only been a matter of time before the house would have caught fire from the dryer.
Thank you FlyLady for saving our house.
Donna from Pa.

FlyLady here: We can do this! Next time it has to be cleaned out take your daughter down so she can see how easy it is! We are only afraid of the things we are not familiar with!

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #11
Today your Olympic challenge is a Downhill event!
Grab your vacuum or your Rubba Sweepa or Rubba Scrubba and a dust pan. We are headed to any stairs you have in your home. I have basement stairs. They are the forgotten slope in our home. The dirt from the basement gets tracked up the stairs.
Your goal is to descend the stairway one step at a time and sweep or vacuum the dirt as fast as you can!
I want to see your time. If you don't have stairs in your home then declutter under your bathroom sink.
Send it to me FlyLady@FlyLady.net with DOWNHILL in the subject line!
FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #10
Dear Friends,
Today is Saturday family fun day! I am sure you have been busy today! I have been holding off on today's challenge so you could play without any guilt.
Your challenge for today is to watch a fun movie, listen to your favorite music or grab your favorite book and take some time for you! Sunday is usually our "Renew Your Spirit" Day! You have been working so hard decluttering that you deserve a break!
{{{HUGS}}} No skipping this one!

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #9
Dear Friends,
Today's Olympic Challenge is to go clean out your car! You have been putting it off because the weather has been so bad. It is time to take a garbage bag out there and get rid of the trash. Even if you have to put on your skis to do it!
If it is a pretty day go run through the car wash, fill it up and get rid of the trash while you are there!
Friday is always our Clean out the car day!
My car has not been out of my driveway in a month. It still has a huge pile of snow in front of it! But it is clean because it has not been out on those nasty roads. LOL

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #8
Dear Friends,
Today's Olympic Event is to sit down with your calendar and write down your menus for next week on your calendar. If you don't have a calendar big enough to hold your menu planning; you know where get one!
Menu planning is not the pain you think it is. We usually only eat a few things that we really like. Make a 3x5 card for each meal along with the side dishes you love. You can put your grocery list on the back of the card. This is going to save you so much money and time!
If this overwhelms you, Leanne can help! www.SavingDinner.com
You can set it up by the type of meat; Beef, Chicken, Pork, Vegetarian, Hamburger, Fish, Casserole.
Set up a basic weekly plan and that is half the battle. Once you put together 5 weeks you can rotate them.
Monday - Chicken
Tuesday - Pasta
Wednesday - Leftovers or Clean out the refrigerator soup
Thursday - Slow cooker day
Friday - Pizza or Sandwiches and a movie
Saturday - Chinese
Sunday - Pot Roast in slow cooker
Or you get the family involved by getting them to help you in the kitchen cook their favorite.
Monday - Your favorite meal
Tuesday - Kid favorite meal
Wednesday - Another kid favorite meal
Thursday - Try something new day!
Friday - Home made pizzas
Saturday - Burgers
Sunday - Family cook together.
You can do this! Knowing "What's for Dinner!" is going to give you so much confidence.

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #7
Dear Friends,
Our FlyLady Winter Decluttering Olympics is getting rid of our clutter. This week we are in our main bathroom and another room in our homes. We have picked that other room to be our office. You know how we neglect it to the point that we don't want to go in there. Now you may not have an office but we all have a place where we pay our bills. It could be your kitchen table, a desk in your kitchen or like me an end table/hotspot!
When these areas get messy; we don't want to deal with them. This week we are going to get our offices/desks clear so we can pay our bills and get our taxes ready to file. We only have eight weeks till that April 15th deadline! We are not going to procrastinate any longer.
Now set your timers and start on one little pile that is on your desk. Each room has a shiny sink. Your desk surface is that shiny sink in your office. We will work our way around this room before the week is up!
It is so easy to take care of business when your desk is shining!
I can't wait to see the beautiful pictures of your desk!
Send them to me FlyLady@FlyLady.net with OFFICE SHINY SINK in the subject line
or post them on our FlyLady Facebook Page.

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #6
Dear Friends,
Right now we are in the middle of our FlyLady Winter Decluttering Olympics. Sometimes we need a specific reason to declutter. I think finding an area in your home that is yours is a great reason to eliminate your clutter. This is your 6th Olympic Event! Declutter an area that you can call your Special Place!
I want to see your pictures. Send them to FlyLady@FlyLady.net with MY PLACE in subject line or post them on our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/TheFlyLady
So many times we neglect ourselves and why? Our spouses have their favorite chair, a desk, and a spot in the world that they can read and enjoy whatever? We can come up with every reason in the world. Not enough room, it's not important, the kids need a place to study.
Well what you are saying is "I'm not important." Well I am here to tell you that you are important. You deserve a sanctuary.
We all need a little area that we can call our own. A chair by a window with good light to read by, a desk that we can fix just the way we want, or a place to do our morning meditations:(GIFT) God or Gratitude, Imagination or inspiration, Focus or Family, and Thanksgiving. This is what Pam and Peggy call their morning and evening meditations. The acronym guides them in their routine.
These places become comfort zones, areas that warm your heart. I have my favorite chair that is in the center of our home. We live in a house full of windows. From my throne, I can see North, South, and East. On a sunny day, the rays bathe my spirit. This is my sacred space.
Do you have a problem getting started? Please clear out one small area and make it your spot: Just having one little area clear and clutter free, will help you to build you up. We neglect ourselves. I want you to FLY and your flight begins when you take care of yourself.
You need some little place you can call your own. Find it. You may need to experiment with different areas till it feels right, your own little sanctuary.
FLYing is fun when you find your seat,

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #3
Dear Friends,
We are having fun now! I am loving all your wonderful pictures.
This event we are going into some of our hidden clutter. I want you to grab a give-away bag and go into your kitchen and open one drawer. You know that gadget drawer or the junk drawer.
As fast as you can I want you to fish out 9, 18 or 27 items to give away. Some of it may need to go into the trash. You can do this. If you want to post your picture of these items so that we can laugh right along with you. We would love to see those gadgets that really didn't work as well as they said they would. It is time for them to go away!
FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #2
We are having a great time. I did a live report on our Olympic Opening Ceremonies and told everyone where our next event was going to be.
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/flylady-tools
Our next event takes us to the back country! You know that place where you put all your stash and dashes! Your bedroom. The event is to clear off the flat surface of your dresser.
Let's go for the Gold! Clear off that flat surface! We can do it! Put something beautiful in place of the clutter. This will keep you from piling stuff on your dresser. Post your pictures on FaceBook.

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #1
Dear Friends,
After you have set up your personal Olympic torch; I want you to brave the elements and go out to your car and gather up the trash, coffee mugs, water bottles and anything else that does not belong in your car. The only people who have a free pass to skip this event are those of you who are buried in six feet of snow. I want you to gather up the trash and mugs in your living room and kitchen.
Here is the Opening Games and your Olympic Torch for your home.
So let us all grab a vase and clear off a table, mantel or buffet. Put that vase along with your feather duster or a flower in the middle of that piece of furniture. That is your signal that the FlyLady Winter Declutter Olympics have begun.
I want to see your pictures too. Go post them on FaceBook http://www.facebook.com/TheFlyLady or send them to me at FlyLady@FlyLady.net with TORCH in the subject line!
We are going to be victorious over clutter!
